Configuration guide - ZTE U10

This guide will walk you through setting up your new ZTE U10 device to get you online quickly.

Updated over a month ago

Editing the APN is challenging on the mobile version of the web portal. While useful for verifying settings, we strongly recommend performing configurations using a laptop for an easier and more reliable experience.

Step 1: Unbox and Insert Your SIM

Get your device ready.

  1. Unbox your ZTE U10. Make sure all parts are present: the router, battery, charge cable, and back cover.

Insert the SIM card. The SIM card will only fit one way. You'll notice a cut corner on the SIM; align this with the cut corner on the SIM slot and slide it under the metal housing, as pictured below (if applicable).

    • SIM Card Size: Your device uses a Nano SIM, which is the smallest size available. Simply pop out the smallest section from your SIM card's original housing.

Step 2: Assemble Your Device and Note Key Information

Once the SIM is in, let's put your device together and gather some important details.

  1. Insert the battery. Ensure the gold pins on the battery align with the gold pins on the router.

Locate the information sticker. Inside the device, at the top, you'll find a small sticker. Make a note of the four key pieces of information on this sticker:

    • WiFi SSID (Network Name): This is the name of your Wi-Fi network that your devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) will see when connecting.

      • Example: If your SSID is ZTE_92A2E8, that's what you'll look for. Your SSID will be unique to your device.

WiFi Key (Password): This is your Wi-Fi password. Keep this secure, as only trusted devices should connect to your network to protect your data and privacy.

      • Example: If your WiFi Key is 97001857, that's what you'll enter. Your WiFi Key will be different.

WebUI IP: This is the address you'll use to access the device's web portal for configuration.

      • Example:

Password: This password is for logging into the device's web portal to change settings. It's different from your WiFi Key and should only be known by the main administrator.

      • Example: If your Password is NRS32MY6 (case-sensitive), that's what you'll use. Your password will be unique.

Step 3: Power On and Connect to Your Device's Wi-Fi

Now, let's power on your ZTE U10 and connect to its Wi-Fi network. This is a crucial step! You must be connected to the device's Wi-Fi to configure it.

  1. Switch on your device.

Connect to its Wi-Fi network. The process is similar across most devices:

    • On a Mobile Device (iPhone example):

      • Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi.

      • Look for your device's WiFi SSID (e.g., ZTE_92A2E8) and tap on it.

      • Enter your WiFi Key (e.g., 97001857) and press Join.

        On a Laptop:

      • Go to your Wi-Fi menu.

      • Find and select your device's WiFi SSID.

      • Enter your WiFi Key and click Join.

Connecting to the Wi-Fi network should take less than a minute. While you might not have internet access yet, this is expected.

Note: You can perform this step from any Wi-Fi enabled device. For the remaining configuration steps, we recommend using a laptop for a better viewing and control experience due to the larger screen.

Step 4: Access the Device Interface and Configure Settings

With your device connected to its Wi-Fi, it's time to access the web interface and configure your settings. We'll continue using a laptop for these steps.

  1. Open a web browser. Any browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.) will work.

    • Important: Ensure you are still connected to your ZTE U10's Wi-Fi network. The interface will not be accessible if you are connected to your home Wi-Fi or any other network.

Enter the WebUI IP address (http://192.168.0.1) into the browser's address bar and press Enter. The interface should load, displaying the main menu.

Navigate to the "My Router" section. This area contains 4G settings and WiFi settings. Our focus will be on the 4G section.

Enable 4G. Ensure the 4G toggle is set to ON.

Click on the "Settings" button within the 4G section (not the Wi-Fi settings). This will reveal three important menus: Connection Mode, Network Selection, and APN.

    • Connection Mode:

      • APN (Access Point Name):

      • The APN settings are crucial for your SIM to access the mobile network. To ensure a connection to all available networks, choose to configure this manually.

        Use:

      • Toggle the APN setting to Manual.

      • Enter a new profile.

        • Profile name: Wave Connect

        • APN: wbdata

        • Username: <Leave blank>

        • Password: <Leave blank>

        • Authentication: PAP or Chap or Auto

      • Enable ROAMING by checking the box. You may see a warning about charges; however, with a Wave Connect Mobile data SIM, you won't incur roaming charges within Europe due to this being inclusive in your data plan.

        Network Selection (Optional but Recommended):

      • This feature is particularly useful when roaming. If your device automatically connects to a sub-optimal network (e.g., Orange in France when a faster alternative like Movistar is available), you can use manual network selection to choose the best signal.

      • Remember to switch back to "Auto" when you're done manually selecting.

      • Save it and set it as default. This is handy if you plan to use multiple SIMs, as you can store different APN settings and easily switch between profiles.

Step 5: Activate APN and Reboot

This is the final step to get you online!

  1. Ensure your APN is active.

  2. Reboot your device.

After these steps, your device should be online!
